I prefer a Miele because it is superior to all other vacuums and I can buy supplies and get it repaired/serviced locally. But if you must choose between a Hoover or a Dirt Devil check first where you can buy supplies like belts, bags, filters, etc.within a close distance from your home. Also find out who will be able to repair and service your vacuum. You don’t want a vacuum that you would have to mail off if it needed repair.

I bought a Dirt Devil for my upstairs ( one of the higher priced ones) and I absolutely HATE it! I drag my Kenmore (which I’m not crazy about up the stairs and down ,which is what I bought an upstairs vac. to avoid. One of the worse things about it ( the Dirt Devil) is that is has a filter inside the dirt cup and emptying the cup is the nastiest filthiest thing you can imagine. You literally need a bath after you empty the cup. Until you have one like that you would never think to look for that problem when buying a vacuum. If you only have the two choices I say go with the Hoover.

I am not a Hoover fan. I had a Hoover canister when I got married. It was OK. I still have it as a shop vac type vacuum but I was never in love with it. I have 3 Dirt Devils: the hand held, the Dynamite ( small upright ) and a full size upright. I have never had problems with any of them and I don’t think I would own any other vacuum.

I wouldn’t buy either. I had several of the Hoovers and won’t buy another one. The last one broke twice under warranty and again shortly out of warranty, the same problem all 3 times and Hoover wouldn’t do anything about it.
So I went and bought a Bissell for about $100 because I didn’t have a lot to spend at the time. The stuff that Bissell pulled out of the carpets that the Hoover was leaving was totally gross! A good 6 years of hard use later, that Bissell is still running well.
I did decide to upgrade to the Bissell Healthy Home model about 5 months ago and I really like the machine! Reason, the catch that holds the upright position broke on the other Bissell making it fall over all the time. But that machine is now the power unit for my husbands dust collection system in his wood shop and he loves it!
The Healthy Home model is more expensive but not nearly as expensive as something like a Dyson. It does great on pet hair and has a lot of great features! I paid $200 for it on sale at Lowe’s. The biggest thing that impressed me was my middle son (who is grown and living on his own) is allergic to cats and we have 4. Within a week of using the Healthy Home, he no longer sneezes when he visits.
It’s got great on board tools, a 5 year warranty, a life time belt and a lot of other great features.

I’ve had a hoover vacuum that was passed from my grandmother, to my mother and then to me. I had it for around 3 years, and it just went out on me! It was a little piece of heaven, lol.

Hoover, wins by a landslide, I had a dirt devil and it burn out, never found out why, but I will not buy another. Of course.
